Meet the New Audi A5: The Future of Audi’s Combustion Engine Lineup

Audi enthusiasts, get ready to meet the new Audi A5. While the A5 isn’t a new name, this time it carries a completely different purpose, replacing the A4 sedan globally. But why the change? This shift aligns with Audi’s new naming strategy: odd-numbered cars are combustion-engined, while even-numbered cars belong to the EV lineup. Excitingly, the Audi A5 will eventually make its way to India, but let’s hold off on the timeline for now.

Design: A Bold New Look of Audi A5

You may remember the Audi A4 for its smooth, understated design. The Audi A5, however, is set to redefine those expectations. While it retains a certain ‘Audi-esque’ subtlety, the new A5 introduces a lot more edginess in its design elements.

  • Larger air vents on either side of the front bumpers
  • Sleeker 3D-designed headlights with new digital light signatures
  • A new Singleframe grille featuring a honeycomb pattern

The A5 also boasts a muscular stance with flared wheel arches and a prominent shoulder line. At the rear, sporty features like the diffuser and twin-tailpipes, along with digital OLED tail lights, keep the design fresh and modern. Plus, it retains the full hatch tailgate seen on the A4.

Performance: Power Under the Hood

Under the hood, the Audi A5 offers a variety of petrol and diesel powertrains, all with mild-hybrid technology. However, don’t expect the 2.0-litre diesels to come to India. The petrol lineup includes:

  • A 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit with varying outputs
  • A 3.0-litre turbo petrol reserved for the S5 sportscar

India is likely to receive the 2.0-litre turbo petrol with a variable geometry turbo, producing 201 bhp, with an optional Quattro all-wheel drive.

Tech and Features: A New Era of Luxury

The Audi A5 is packed with state-of-the-art equipment:

  • A new panoramic curved MMI display
  • An 11.9-inch virtual cockpit
  • A 14.5-inch MMI touch display

Borrowing from Porsche, Audi has included an optional 10.9-inch passenger display screen. Additionally, many functions can now be operated via a head-up display.

What’s Next?

While Audi has not confirmed the exact timeline for the A5’s arrival in India, it’s expected to be soon, especially with the A5 replacing the A4 globally. This change hints at an all-electric A4 sedan in the future. With Audi planning to launch over 20 new models between 2024 and 2025, the wait shouldn’t be too long.

The new Audi A5 promises to deliver a perfect blend of performance, luxury, and cutting-edge technology, marking a significant step forward in Audi’s journey. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new model!
