If rumors hold true, the lineup will feature three impressive models: the vanilla Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, and the Pixel 9 XL. Major Camera Upgrades for the Pixel 9 Series
Recent reports from the Android Commission suggest that the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 XL will see significant enhancements in their camera systems. Both models will boast a 50-megapixel triple rear camera setup, featuring Sony IMX858 ultra-wide-angle and telephoto sensors. Interestingly, the front camera on these models will also sport a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 sensor, traditionally used for rear cameras, promising a leap in selfie quality.
The standard Pixel 9 isn’t left out of the upgrade frenzy. It will receive an upgrade to its ultra-wide-angle sensor, now featuring the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 sensor found in the Pro models. Additionally, the Pixel 9 will now have a front-facing camera with autofocus, a feature previously exclusive to the Pro variants.
Across all three devices, the main camera retains the 50-megapixel Samsung GNK sensor that debuted with the Pixel 8 series, ensuring continuity in high-quality imaging.
Controversial Features and Software Updates
One surprising element that Google seems to be sticking with is the infrared thermometer feature on the Pro models, despite its controversial reception and limited practical use.
In conjunction with the new hardware, Google will also release an updated version of the Pixel Camera app, which supports 8K video recording at 30fps. However, it’s not yet clear which of the Pixel 9 models will support this feature.
